Mesh to Solid?

Is it possible to convert Mesh to solid. Thicken doesn't seem to work?

  Polyface mesh (see here for a Lisp solution) or polygon mesh? If the latter is the case: can you post an example dwg?

  Normally it's :
  I "repair" Meshes to Solids by :

  Explode
  Select Faces
  Create Regions
  Select Regions
  Stitch
  (+ Simplify)

  There are already a few threads here.
