Wrapping 2D sketches around cylinders then cut/extrude

Pretty much is what the title asks possible?

Alternate (asked in the sheet metal forum) can you unfold / refold a cylinder in sheet-Metal? Don't have sheet metal to try and documentation doesn't show or indicate its possible,

    Yes, the engraving (imprinting) is possible - see the attachment.

    (un)fortunately I'm just in holidays without my workstation ;-)

    PS:: I think, it would be helpful to create a tool (3DSOLID) for Subtract and than you could use the patharray-command to place this tool.
