CHANGING FROM PAPER SPACE TO MODEL SPACE FAILS

Hi,
Recently in ver 18 I am having problems on some drawings where I cannot go from model space to paper space. I press a paper space TAB (I may have several) and I remain stuck in a "no mans land" where I see model space but can't do anything. It appears that the graphics card is stuck. To rectify I have to save and exit. When I re-enter I am now in Paper space and can continue. If I exit to model space and try and return to paper space the same thing happens again.
