Graphics problem

Hi,
this is my first attempt on this program and it seems reveal a compatibility problem with my graphic card.
What do you think about it? I have Ubuntu 17.10 version on my Vaio.

  • Hi

In this case, the best way to receive feedback is creating a support ticket here --> https://www.bricsys.com/en-eu/support/#105

  • I suggest to try changing GLSWAPMODE.
And indeed, please enter a support request to receive further help by a Bricsys support analyst.

  • Tijs Vermeulen...

    Hello. Thanks for the suggestion...
I had the same graphics problem on debian 9.
This doesn't happens on ubuntu, but I don't use Ubuntu because
    it's based on debian testing...

But, with GLSWAPMODE it seems to be allright...

By the way, what is this variable? (GLSWAPMODE).

    Thank you, very much!!

Pull down Settings > Settings and type the name of any variable and it'll explain what the variable does.

  • ^ I read it but don't get it anyway.

I searched in help for GLSWAPMODE but don't get any search result.

Is it good to offer options for settings to users that the average user
won't understand and may accidentally screw up ?
Or should such at least be hidden behind an advanced mode in
    settings ?

    Thank you Anthony.
It is clear for me now.

    Michael:
    It is a program variable.
Open the Settings dialog and search for it.

    Found it in Settings now.

But don't understand by the Tool Tip how it works or what is
recommended in which situation and such.
But it is available for every average user like an INSUNITS or
    Snap Setting.
It looks like you can screw things up that way pretty easily and
    hardly find it again later.

  • GL Swap Mode is a program setting affecting how the program use your display driver to update the model/drawing window.

    It is found here:
    Settings/Settings.../Program options/Display/GL Swap Mode

The default value in BricsCAD is '2'. I guess this works best if you have an Nvidia or Intel GPU (but I don't know because we have always used AMD GPUs with BricsCAD.

If you have an AMD GPU and if you are using the 'radeon' or 'amdgpu' open source display driver you should set GL Swap Mode to '3'.

It would be a nice if BricsCAD would automatically check the display driver in use and adjust GL Swap Mode, because it will affect many users, but for now it must be changed manually.

  • Thanks Mikael, for the info and experiences !

  • Ouch,
I had my first graphics problems in Bricscad too.
As soon as I finally tediously cleaned up my Revit import and everything
converted to Solids, any kind of shaded View Mode looked horribly destroyed.
All Colors where over bright and Z-Buffer seemed to fail as you saw hidden
geometry from behind and everything in stripes or artifacts.
I really thought I lost my whole File and work as everything purge, recover or
    audit did not help.

I searched on the forum and found that thread again.
    GLSWAPMODE was 0 here,
I am sure I never changed that setting myself, the options don't tell me anything.
    AMD on Mac here.
    GLSWAPMODE 2 or 3 didn't work either. Seems like GLSWAPMODE = 1
    works for me.

But why did that happen ?
I never had seen that before, and before it happened I even have frozen a lot
    of unnecessary geometries Layers.
Can that happen by an accidental unwanted Key Input or similar while working
    in model view ?
