Shape In Lumion

Finally muddled my way through the tutorial. Made several mistakes - especially on the level of the second floor slab. But here are some quick Lumion renderings. Used the FBX export - none of the Shape materials came over, so everything was assigned in Lumion.

  • Those both look very nice. That building looks somehow familiar....

Thus "the tutorial" - not an original, just testing the FBX exporter.

  • That looks great !

Currently you get Materials out of FBX without the Textures of
    RedSDK or Components Materials.
Only custom Materials and Textures will Export.
I had a SR and this should be improved in the future.

Well, Material or Camera Exchange between Apps, so far,
    isn't that great in general.
In Modo I always get 1 W/sqm Illumination for each Material,
also some Material Settings or Texture Assignments get lost
    and such things.
But important that you are happy for any Material Naming,
Material Setting, Color, or Texture Assignment that comes in.
Or Cameras Locations, although all Camera Settings
    may be nuts.

The FBX came into Lumion all white with Materials labeled "Material 1", etc. Having the base Materials would be nice but as you can see not totally critical.

  • Yes, I meant it more in a way, for complicated projects,
like, if there is lost all Naming, Grouping or Layers,
even if Material Settings are crap,
the Material Assignments itself may be the only help to
separate objects after import in any way,
so that you can apply your final Materials.

Or if Materials bring in at least their Diffuse Color, you may
be able to recognize what Material may have been meant,
that you could replace it with a final Material.

    BTW
I get here client Revit stuff in that has 700+ unique "Materials"
(Not assigned in any way) in DWG,
that a DAE alternative export shows to be more like 300+ Materials
    in reality (Cinema4D).
Which after purging duplicated redundant Materials, should finally
more mean something like only 80+ Materials.

  • Hi everyone, I just talked with Jan (the Shape product manager). The team is aware of the Materials issue, and they have updated the code for fbxexport. The fix will be available asap - potentially in the next update release of V19. No promises, tho. :)

Dave, thank you for your work here - it's gorgeous! -Don

Thanks - blame Lumion for how this looks - just using a demo file and settings. But I wanted to see where I could take a Shape model.

Is there an "official" repository for Suggestions? TIA!

    Sounds great !
(I hope it will be in a "Bricscad" way ...)

    Did you also try :
    https://support.lumion.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007649393
to bring it over from Bricscad ?

Lumion's quality seems to be ahead of Twinmotion.
    Unfortunately Windows only ....

No I didn't try the DWG - Materials may be a problem as well. Lumion relies heavily on the GPU and that seems to be a problem on the Mac side of things. Twinmotion is getting better because it is now based on UE4. The other most people are using is Enscape.

  • Yes, Apple is no more a reccomended 3D or GPU platform anymore.
I thought more about Linux ...
Looks like the only serious Option is Blender Eevee.

    Enscape Windows only too.

  • Here's the import of Shape's Export to DWG into Lumion. Since Materials Textures are not stored in the DWG, I didn't expect them. But it also doesn't assign base Material colors. It does create better names for them.

  • FYI, LUMION now has a livesync for BricsCAD: https://lumion.com/whats-new.html
