Correct way to model from CAD drawings.

Greetings.

As a revit user who is switching to bricscad, I would like to know what the modeling workflow would be.

For example, a building with different levels where we have different floors that vary according to the level, let's say a 15-story building, with different floors 1 and 2 and levels 3 to 14 the same and level 15 with another floor.

Bricscad have a great tool such as quickdraw and they also replicate the plants, but I do have these different plants in cad.

How should I correctly model each plant at the corresponding level?

I am trying to model the slabs and replicate them and then manually place the floor plan on the corresponding slab but I am wondering if it is the most optimal way to do it?

Thanks for your reply

  • There is very few typical BIM App parametric in Bricscad BIM.
Like now Story- Level System that allows for parametric Hight Changes.
Or Wall (Styles) that bind Wall's top and bottom dynamically
    to Story Levels.

It is meant to do that with Direct Modeling Tools.
So you would move/drag your Slab(s) and all touching Faces of Wall's,
    Column's, ... will follow.

That works especially well for simpler Projects and when you model in
a simplified way, by simple Solids (single-Ply Walls and Slabs)
    It has some limitations.
Like I would assume that Doors would also follow when you drag the
Slab, but I am not sure if Windows, that don't touch the Slab will follow
too (?). At least your Sanitary Blocks may not notice the Height change.

So it may take some planning and good Layer or Hierarchy organization
    and keeping overview.
But I think that kind of Story adjustments may not happen that often and
mostly at very early design stages, where your geometry may still be simple
enough make that doable without problems.

There are nice Direct Modeling tools and Options that allow such changes.
Like selecting a single bottom Face of a Window cutout in Wall,
select all coplanar Faces, move these to new Z - should move all your
    Windows at a time.

When getting more concrete in later design stages and starting to assign
(multy-ply) Compositions to Walls and Slabs, you would detail only a single
    Wall Slab connection
(like structural Wall (Ply) on Slab, Insulation (Ply) to bottom of Slab, ...)
and run Propagate that searches all related same connections and adds
your changes to these automatically too.
Even in such more complicated situations, just dragging the Slab for Story
    Height changes should still work.
