AutoCAD DWG TrueView 2022 wont open my dxf files.

I send out all my files in "DXF 2010" format.
A client is trying to open them with AutoCAD DWG TrueView 2022 but they are getting the following error:

The following error was encountered while reading
in XRECORD starting at line 27218:
DXF read error
Invalid or incomplete DXF input -- drawing discarded.
Press ENTER to continue:

On enter press it cancels opening the drawing.

Opening the DXF file with notepad++ to line 27218 is as follows.

XRECORD
5
70
102
{ACAD_REACTORS
330
6F
102
}
330
6F
100
AcDbXrecord
280
1
5005
bpenEnabled
290
1
5005
bpenFileName
5005
sketchy.bpen

I can erase these lines and then the file will open fine, but i don't want to have to do this every time i have to send out of a file.

  • I don't know how many files your are dealing with but if it's maybe 15 or less, perhaps save them as 2007 binary dxf and resend. I use this to send to the laser cutters as they seem to have old software that is easily upset.

No luck went all they way down to 2000

should also note that its all 2d wire frame. I have never use the sketchy visual style

These where old files so it seems to be some type of Variable setting. To fix it I had to copy everything into a new drawing and then save. would really like to witch it was so i can check and disable it in the future.

  • Dear Matt,

these "5005" key values are the issue :-(
It was a defect/bug in older BricsCAD versions ...
    if you can re-save your DXF files with newer BricsCAD versions, the issue should no longer exist;
I think, at least V21 should be fine, eventually also fixed yet in V20 (?)

hope this helps a bit ...
    many greetings !
