BricsCAD BIM to Revit

We measure existing buildings and model this in BricsCAD BIM in to a 2D drawing. We want to go more and more towards working out in 3D, but 99% of our customers are Revit users.

We have already tried to export an IFC from BricsCAD and import it into Revit, but so far this has not given good results. For example, the subtract volumes of windows and doors are also exported, which gives a strange picture (both in Revit and, for example, in Solibri).

Who has the golden tip for converting / importing a BricsCAD 3D model to / in Revit?

I always thought this would be IFC standard (?)

As AFAIK I get subtract volumes via Vectorworks IFC to Bricscad too
or see them in IFC Viewers - although Vectorworks itself does not
need subtract volumes, as it works/models differently.

Usually these subtract volume Layers are off/invisible (?)
But Revit does not work with or has no Layers at all, and so
the subtraction volumes are visible !?
  • Here are some exsamples of what we modelled in BricsCAD and what we see in Revit. Don't mind the building, it's only a small not existing building just for testing.

    Revit:

  • Yes, Bricscad works with subtraction volumes, e.g. when inserting Windows in Walls.
These are assigned to a special red Layer, frozen (?) or OFF by default.
So these don't irritate in Bricscad.

    But in Revit.
I am not experienced with Revit. But isn't there any option to switch all subtract volumes off ?

  • Hi PGR,

This should obviously not be the case. Normally, openings get exported well to Revit, so it should be investigated what is going wrong here.

Could you provide us with some more information?
    1. Could you send us the .dwg and .ifc files?
    2. Which version of BricsCAD are you using?
    3. Which version of Revit are you exporting to?
    4. Which IFC version are you using (IFC2x3 or IFC4)?
    5. Maybe add a printscreen of your IFC export settings.
This will help us investigate the issue.
    Thanks!

    Best regards,
    Ruben
  • Hello did this get sorted?
  • Hi PGR,

Could you send us the files (here or in a Support Request), so that we can investigate further?

    Thanks!

    Best regards,

    Ruben
