Bricscad (Linux) 10.6.3
Hello All,
Bricscad (Linux) 10.6.3 is now available.
fixes:
- MText: Fixed potential crash that could happen while rendering mtext.
- Fixed crash on opening/closing or refreshing one or more large drawings. This crash could happen in many situations as soon as some memory boundary size was crossed.
- Printing: various fixes for custom paper size, paper rotation, printing from layout.
- Printing: SR25174: Fixed crash when changing paper orientation when there is no printer in the system, fixed garbage values in paper size width and height fields in the print dialog.
known issues:
- Four toolbar docking areas exist: top, bottom, left, right. A toolbar docked in one area cannot be docked into another area by dragging. For instance, a toolbar with horizontal layout will not switch to vertical layout by dragging it to the left side. The customize dialog can be used to dock the toolbar in another area.
- In the main graphics window of Bricscad (Linux), a mouse arrow is always visible. Indeed, the display of custom mouse pointers in the main graphics window is not yet implemented on Linux. By the design of Bricscad, the lack of a mouse pointer is also a custom mouse pointer. This feature has been deliberately postponed, in favor of more important features.
- When starting Bricscad from terminal, this error message may appear: "Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_drawable_get_depth: assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed".
- In the settings dialog, previews are not visible and the layout of the description is incorrect until the settings dialog is resized.
- The COPYCLIP window and the Bricscad Prompt History window appear as a separate application in the application bar.
- Installation issues on 64 bit. It is possible to run Bricscad (Linux) on a 64 bit system. However, the Bricscad (Linux) installers do not automatically add all required 32 bit libraries. Additional manual setup is needed.
Greetings
Pieter

Hi - The RPM loaded just fine for me in OpenSuse 11.3 (64.)
This seems to have fixed the crash problem I reported yesterday for 10.6.2: that the program would crash when the OK button was clicked on the warning that a plotter wasn't known and the default would be used.
This release did not help me with the freeze that occurs when opening some drawings. I don't know what it is about these particular drawings that causes the freeze. Size doesn't seem to be the issue. Text might be. - I've sent one such troublesome drawing to Bricsys in the past and you could open it no problem. Will keep trying.

Segfault remained at use mtext.

It is the conflict of applications. I used virtualbox. At installation bricscad in pure system all works. However I can't understand, what application disturbs.

get error: after install, "no valid license key valid on this system". "enter license key for briscad".

I would like to know if is provided in future release, a reduction in the size of icons in order to have more working space. In addiction it would be appreciated (IMHO) remove the bar where is displayed the file name and integrate it in the title bar with "Bricscad (Trial)".

Copy Layout do not works.

Along the lines of what Cielito Lindo says: the working space issue plagues all the programs that follow the Autocad pattern. Screen sizes are becoming more horizontal and all the horizontal bars used for command, status, tabs, functions and similar things take up to 35 to 40 percent of the available vertical space. That's one of the two reasons why have much more functionality available from the menus that open with a right mouse click makes so much sense. The other reason is minimizing hand motion required to accomplish things.

I got the same error:
"no valid license key valid on this system". "enter license key for briscad".
on Kubuntu Lucid.
Also the key postet on the downloadsite for testing will not work.

@ Cielito Lindo, tabs with filenames can be placed near the Model & layouts tabs, or at the bottom near snap, grid, ortho, polar, etc..
Install ok on ubuntu 10.40, no errors.
Can't print A2 format sheet, only A3 size.
Some problems with grey pens, sometimes print grey, sometimes print black (in the same drawing and layout, but in diferents viewport windows). Preview is OK.
Printer ploter configuration properties don't work.

Bug at use mtext fixed.
I use for calculations smath, based on mono.
http://en.smath.info/forum/
That Russian font was normally displayed, it is necessary to use a foreign font micross.ttf (so the developer of the program recommends). If this font is in a folder /.fonts - that arises segfault. Thanks developers. All works.

As far as i can see, Bricscad for Linux is no longer beta.
I have a windows license for v10 and cannot enter it on Linux version.
When i bought the license here at Portugal I was told that it would be valid, what's wrong?

"It is possible to run Bricscad (Linux) on a 64 bit system. However, the Bricscad (Linux) installers do not automatically add all required 32 bit libraries. Additional manual setup is needed." Uh, could you elaborate? On OpenSuse 11.2, I'm getting a failed dependency for libGL.so.1 when running rpm -i on the rpm package. There is a libGL.so.1 (link to libGL.so.1.2) in /usr/lib64, but making a link to it in /usr/lib doesn't resolve the failed dependency. Is the Bricscad rpm expecting it to be somewhere else, or does it specifically need a 32-bit libGL.so.1, and is somehow able to detect that the one I have is 64-bit? If it does need a 32-bit version, is that included in the .tgz package? Do you know of any other missing dependencies on 64-bit Suse?
Thanks,
Michael Evans

@Cielito Lindo
I have copy of layout, working fro a long time. No any problem wuth that.
As Ricardo Perry, I see Bricscad for Linux is no longer beta.
Little bit confused with this.
I have 3 big problem with BricsCAD 10.6.3.
1. Still Crashed when block is created (Sorry I cannot separate info what you need from garbage) Whole bugreport from GNOME bugreporter.

This issue I have every time I create new block. It 100% repeatable for me.
The crash appears(maybe wrong word sorry) when block is already defined, created, and renamed. After that I close dialog "Drawing Explorer-Blocks" and BricsCAD is Crashed.
This is unacceptable bug
2. I have on Laptop Ati Video Card (Radeon Xpress 1100), It old for now I understand.
I have opensource drivers on it.
I am trying on fresh installed opensuse 11.3 only with BricsCAD 10.6.3
And I still have problem, that was reported. The problem is when select something in the drawing it disappeares. Only green "markers" is visible. Some people allready reported about this issue on ATI Graphics.
Variable "GLSwapMode" Did not help. I check for all available possibilities, but have no luck. Only "Do Nothing" have effect, but it complitely bad. Whole drawing area look freezed.
This is also unacceptable bug
3. And last from this group Printer properties
When I open Page Setup I cannot change Printer settings. There is button but pressing it have no any sence.
<img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_EGHByq6hIgo/TIXpXYW4gYI/AAAAAAAAAhE/H5xP0jKBuc0/s800/Page Setup-02-ed.png" />
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_EGHByq6hIgo/TIXpXYW4gYI/AAAAAAAAAhE/H5xP0jKBuc0/s800/Page Setup-02-ed.png
That was most important problems for me now.
Minor problems (Finally we reached them, and can talk about)
Crash on closed:
Not so important but annoying.

many problems with focus, F8, F3 and others.
I am did not want to discuss before main problems will be fixed.

@ Elmer Gato: Tanks for the suggestion. But how can i put it there where you say?

Andrey, please create a support request for the problems you mention. Best use one support request per problem.
The 'edit plotconfig' button in the print dialog is disabled because the pc3 editor is not included yet.
kind regards, Alexander Van Heuverzwyn

Andrey,
Finally I've been able to reproduce the crash when creating a block. With me it only crashes when :
- The prompt menu is turned on
- I draw some lines, end the command by pressing the space bar
- After selecting entities for the block, end the selection by pressing the space bar.
Will be fixed as soon as possible. Perhaps, with the above information, you can work around the crash in the mean time ?
About the problem with selected entities disappearing: Could you mention in the support request exact details about the graphics card and driver ? I have had problems on a OpenSuse machine, until I uninstalled the driver 'xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau'.

@Alexander Van Heuverzwyn, Pieter Clarysse
Thank you for your reaplyes
@Alexander Van Heuverzwyn
The 'edit plotconfig' button in the print dialog is disabled because the pc3 editor is not included yet.
that is understandable thank you for clarification with this point
please create a support request for the problems you mention
Does not understand. That place(forum) is wrong for now?
use one support request per problem
OK, this understandable. Many forums have denny double, triple or more posting. That was a reason.
@Pieter Clarysse
- The prompt menu is turned on
Did not got what exactly is "promt menu"? Please help with right understanding.
I can come over that problem with new drawing and attach it as xref.

Andrey Didencool, you can file support request (or bug report) at https://www.bricsys.com/open/protected/common/mystuff/srNew.jsp
Michael Evans, I don't use Opensuse nor Fedora, therefore you have to find out the right package names yourself, but installing is something similar to the following. If you succeed at installing, please note down all the packages you needed and post the full list here, so others could benefit.
Opensuse: open terminal, type 'su' to get root privileges. Then write: zypper install libGL1-i386
Fedora: do something similar to: yum install mesa-libGLU.i386 mesa-libGL.i386 glibc.i686
Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

This afternoon I received an email from Bricsys. They have released the commercial version of Bricscad Linux (10.6.3.2), but it is the same Beta version. Or so it seems.
I think the current version is not yet ready for production purpose...
Can you report more detail on this issue?0 -
@Michael Evans
to find any library you should use zypper, man zypper or zypper --help
> LANG=en_EN.UTF8 zypper --help | grep wp
what-provides, wp List packages providing specified capability.
>zypper what-provides libGL.so.1
zypper is distro specific package manager in opensuse
that is my one
> LANG=en_EN.UTF8 zypper wp libGL.so.1

I have also received the email that Bricscad for Linux has been released. Although I have been a supporter of Bricscad on Linux since the original Wine release of Bricscad for Linux in 2004, and even bought two copies, and have downloaded and tried every Alpha and Beta version in the present effort, I am hesitating to purchase this release. It seems too early, all the problems are not yet resolved, and there is no indication that maintenance releases will be free unless one purchases the "All in" version.
I would have thought there would be an announcement on this forum about an upcoming release candidate, a last effort to squash bugs, an effort to complete missing features, etc. instead it appears that the last beta has been released as a finished product.
I would love to purchase a five pack and go into production, but I am not convinced the product is ready, for what to me, is THE mission critical piece of software in the office.

Kurt Eichenberger/architect AIA

Other printing problem:
When i select the print window is ignored and will see other parts of the drawing until there is space in paper space.
In Autoacd, if i have a big drawin and i want to print only a part of it, i select the part of the drawing with the window and only that part is dislpaied (and printed).

@ Cielito Lindo
Yes, I post this bug a few months ago, sure will be fixed soon. Print is the main issue for me.

Hatch patterns DOT, DOT2 are not displayed, also I change the hatch scale. The others patterns works fine.
