at the bottom the options were Ok / Ignore and install. I installed.
first 2 runs crash after the 3D-> Finish on the start wizard.
Still trying.0 -
if i use 2D -> finish and it started fine.
i went ahead and drew my profile, and converted it to a polyline.
when i tried to switch back to 3D Context it Crashed to the desktop.0 -
I can use the Direct modeling menu and it all works fine, but if i go to 3D Context it implodes every time.0
-
from the rendering menu
the render/tea pot crashes to desktop.
the material editor opens, but when i try to create a new one it crashes.0 -

It is interesting that bricscadv11 also uses libglew1.5.Why can v11 find it and v12 cannot on the same computer?0
-
About the package quality warning "arch-independent-package-contains-binary-or-object": So far the Bricscad (Linux) deb installer has used the architecture field "all". This is now changed to "any-i386 any-amd64".
About the libGLEW problem: No 32 bit libGLEW is available on 64 bit linux systems, see v12 error while loading shared libraries: libGLEW.so.1.5.
A new installer has been uploaded, with updated architecture field and 32 bit libGLEW included.
About the 3D functionality: 3D rendering with hardware acceleration by the Redway rendering engine does not yet work in Bricscad (Linux). Therefore none of the new V12 3D features was mentioned in the release notes so far. However, many features will already simply work since they do not need 3D rendering, eg direct modeling.
Kind Regards

I've been working around them, so it's all good. i'm just reporting back what isn't working.
the 12.1.9-2 still gives me the quality error, but not all the text line errors if that makes sense.
oh, one issue i meant to bring up before but forgot.
the text/pull down menus don't load by default. i have to right click in the menu area and select customize -> tool bars. then after changing something it shows up.0 -
I had a lock up a little earlier.
I had been modeling an assembly. everything was running great then it started to bag down and get slower and slower.
I assumed my assy just had to many surfaces for my laptop so i went to turn off layers i didn't need on.
i hit the tool bar for the layers and it just froze.
I think it had a slow memory leak. i had been running for a couple hours. it just finally caught up with me.0 -
Unable to print.Using "_print" the print window don't open.Fedora 16 Gnome30
-
can't print either.
i went to the page setup for the tab/layout and when i clicked on device to add one it imploded.0 -
ok, it's not a major crash type bug, but still driving me nuts.
when i'm editing a profile/polyline by dragging the handles, it keeps flipping to the next desktop.
at first i thought it had crashed, but everything was still running right where i left it and i was able to finish the operation.
but it does this every time and every time i have to flip back to the correct window.
it makes it hard to build up momentum.0 -
tool bars only showing the first icon.
it just started today.
and once again there are no text pulldown menus unless i go in and use customize.0 -
Using Ubuntu 11.10 everything looks fantastic! menus, fly-outs, tool bars etc. Of course I'm a Linux newbie : |
sorry the screen shot is with dual screens : )
Screenshotlinux.png0 -
Cool screen-shot. i was worried about upgrading.
another one i keep forgetting to post.
my preferred tool bar set up is with draw and snaps on the left and dims + solids edit on the right.
but it won't let me put dimensions or solids on the right.
it puts them on the left anyway and shoves my other tool bars off the screen.
also i don't use View, but no matter how many times i turn it off/close it, it always there the next time i start up.0 -
Hello,
I'm just trying BricsCAD 12 Beta on my Ubuntu Linux (64-bit).
Works nice, but:
1. Why ECW image files does not work? Only image border appeared on the screen, but without image inside.
2. Do you have plans for 64-bit native version of BricsCAD? (this question is for both OSes, Win and Lin)0 -
Good day,
Today installed it and cant run in 3D mode. From command line it returns a "Segmentation fault".
Kernel: Linux 3.0.0-15-generic #25-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 2 17:45:26 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
nVidia driver: 290.10-0ubuntu1~oneric~xup1
With noveau 1:0.0.16+git20110411+8378443-1 Redway sdk complains
Any trick available ?
Many thanks!0 -
I've had the same problem.
you can start it in 2D and model in 3D.
but the 3D Context mode will crash me every time.
the Quad still works. the Direct modeling menu still works fine.
on the rendering menu, the tea pot will crash me every time, but most other options work.
for me it's a bit of a mine field, but the direct modeling menu still makes it an improvement over V11, and i really liked v11.
so i hope they can work through enough of these to release a V12 soon. my beta only has 3 days left.0 -
I miss to advice that have 2 OS in the same PC ( Ubuntu 11.10 and XPsp3)
In XP work flawless but in Ubuntu, the 3D modeling crash. (I have had to install winXP for Bricscad v12.)

I can confirm the experience Guillermo Lo Coco and Keith Frost made. Is ist possible that the crashes in 3D mode are a videocard issue?
My configuration:
Kernel/OS: Linux 3.0.0-14-generic x86_64 [ Ubuntu 11.10 ]
CPU Info: (1+2) AMD Athlon Dual Core 4850e 512 KB cache flags( sse3 nx lm svm ) clocked at [ 2500.000 MHz ]
Videocard: nVidia C77 [GeForce 8300] X.Org 1.10.4 [ 1920x1200@50.0hz ]
(Are there any recommendations which videocards work best with bricscad?)
Besides that I already got an error while installing v12 like the one described in posting #3 in this tread.
I, too, hope the problems are solved soon, otherwise I might be forced to switch to the windows version.0 -
I thought i remembered reading that the render engine used for 3D mode isn't running in linux yet.
so the rendering that is used in 2D mode will let you shade/HLR in different modes, it just won't let you render material finishes.
fwiw, Nvidia 560M / 32 bit Ubuntu 11.040 -
Hi Keith,
I cant launch "3D Context", so i suppose that maybe the http://www.redway3d.com/pages/redsdk.php is not working properly in linux.
Dont know0 -
hmm,
Their site says they have support for both Nvidia and ATI.
They support Linux, but specify Fedora. I think most of us are running either Ubuntu or Debian.
Anyone running Fedora? I'd be interested if this works on a Fedora box.0 -
I can't show anything i do at my day job so this will have to do. it was done for fun for a friend.
yes, it's a lightsaber(don't laugh too hard).
Enjoy.
it's a small assembly, but yes it(Linux V12 Beta) can do 3D without 3D mode/3D Context.0 -
Realistic rendering using RedSDK does not work in Bricscad (Linux) 12.1.9, regardless of used hardware or driver.
Due to openGL initialization problem, the RedSDK hardware rendering crashes while loading its dependencies.
For that reason none of the new 3D features was mentioned in the Release Notes of Bricscad (Linux) so far.
Although many of the new 3D features work without realistic rendering we prefer to present them together.
Redway has meanwhile fixed the openGL initialization problem, we should be making progress soon.
@Keith Frost: Nice shots, great to see Bricscad (Linux) in use for real work0 -
my beta has expired.
will there be a new one anytime soon?0 -
first impressions of 12.1.14-1 are pretty good.
upside:
no errors or warnings on install.
starting in 3D mode or switching to 3D Context didn't crash it.
I get the grid/checker board to show my working plane while in 3D Context.(thank you)
I was able to go into materials and create and edit a material.
Quad is running a little smoother.
downside:
I didn't notice any difference in rendering or hardware acceleration.
the gradient background i see in the tutorials isn't there.(yes i know it's nick-picking).
even after creating and applying a material, my part doesn't look any different.
I still don't get a text menu across the top unless i go into customize.
on a side note, where do you set the color for part edges.
the tutorials show dark edges, which i like, but i can only get white edges(when i use Gouraud + Edges)0 -
