XREF appears vague.

When I insert an XREF  into  a drawing the xref appears somewhat vague.  The xref is not as clear (distinct) as when seen as an independent xref drawing before
insertion.
This is fairly annoying since the xref does not give the contrast and clarity that is easy to work with.   I do not want to change the color or layer of the
xref to make it easier to read since I  have previously set layers and colors of xref for correct plotting.

Is there a simple switch that will allow the xref to be viewed after inserted with more clarity?
