Which commands/settings control the XREF color and transparency?

QUESTION 2
Are there any XREF visibility control commands included in AutoCAD that are not included in BricsCAD?

MY ISSUE EXAMPLE
To adjust a single XREF attachment to show as Color 9 or light gray (or grey), I had to open the attached file and change the color of all entities to Color 9.
I understand there is a relation between Property Panel Overrides and the Layer Manager "Setbylayer" properties - I played with both Color and Transparency and watched a BricsCAD YouTube on this topic.

COMMENT
I DO NOT understand why I had to resort to opening the attached file independently and changing properties there: I also detached / re-attached this file.
Then, it showed as Color 9 in the file to which it was attached.

I appreciate any related input.
