Updating Instructions.

I have been only using BC for a few months. "about" tells me I have BricsCad Pro version 25.2.06 installed. "update" tells me V25.2.09 is available. I assume I can get this version for free since I have a maintenance contract. Clicking "yes" in the update dialog box takes me to a Bricsys web page that appears to have been created by the marketing department for new customers. Asking me to "signup for downloading" and buttons for buying products and free trials! There appears to be no button for "update". It certainly is not clear how to simply update the software and KEEP all my customizations.

Do I have to manually reinstall the entire system? What about my partial CUI and all of my customizations I made four months ago when I switched from AutoCad?

I really like Bricscad Pro but "updating" seems to be an orphan nobody wanted to handle.

I assume there is a blog somewhere explaining how to update but I have yet to find it.

Please help.

  • Did you log in to your Bricscad account first? There's a Log In item in the upper right. You'll have to select "Back to website" after logging in.

  • martin,

Thanks for your reply. I logged in and the "signup for downloading" button changed to "download the new version…" For some reason earlier today when I signed in that button did not change. Okay, so now my download folder has a msi file with the new version in its name. Great!

I assume I can some how manually run the msi file and hope for the best. I do not like the uncertainty of this process. What about my settings, customizations, license, etc.?

For decades every piece of software that I owned, running on Windows, had an "update" button which you clicked and a few minutes/seconds later the program opens up running the new version.

  • As a supervisor for multiple copies ex Acad, across multiple departments, I made a install .lsp, That does just that installs all the support paths, saves all code if required, loads company custom menus and so on. So a new install on say a new Pc was very painless.

    Happy to provide details.

You can export stuff like current support paths, plus more paths, current menu names and so on.

  • Alan, It is no surprise to me that with your years of experience with CAD systems you would have a lisp to install the software. 😁 When I need to UPGRADE or get a new computer requiring reinstalling BricsCAD I will come to you for help.

What I am doing now is an UPDATE which should be very simple, and I expect it is. I was just concerned what, if anything, could the update change that I have customized. I expect it changes nothing but who knows.

Since I started this post I found another user with the exact same question. The link is to the 4-year old post in this forum by No1vectorman.

This old post answers my questions. It appears No1vectorman updated and all his customizations remained intact. Good news. I will try to update today. I will be back if something goes wrong! Thank you everyone for your advice and four years late, thank you No1vectorman for sharing your experience.
