AS version of BricsCAD for V26 ?

At the WWDC Apple announced today that macOS 26 Tahoe will not be able to be installed on some 2019 and 2020 Intel Mac's and next year's macOS27 will be the last year of support for the remaining Intel Mac's.

Surely it is time that BricsCAD releases an AS version.

Could we please get an update on progress for the AS version.

  • We are working on a native build for Apple Silicon, but we can't tell when we will be able to deliver it.

BricsCAD needs to get with the program. Every other major CAD vendor offers A.S. native versions.

  • will be the last year of support for the remaining Intel Mac's.

Which was to be expected already since - from now - exactly 5 years ago - wow.

and next year's macOS27 will be the last year of support …..

But I read there will be another 3 years of security fixes for macOS 27.

So Bricscad has at least 4 more years until an AS-only version is needed/mandatory. I have kept my old Intel Trash Can Mac Pro in the cupboard any way, in case one day I will need it again.

But I am more concerned about Bricscad's drawing viewport graphic or large file data performance on all platforms. Or feature parity for the non-Windows platforms.

  • Good to hear that there is a native AS build in progress.

Also read today that Rosetta 2 will be only supported to macOS 27 (next year's operating system) so BricsCAD will need to be an AS build by V27 or else it would not run on the latest Mac operating system.

I also contacted support this week because I hadn't found this thread yet. Since this discussion is here, I want to share the support team's response with you right away.

When it comes to native Apple Silicon support:
It is something we are working on, unfortunately it didn't make V26, because of multiple external factors.
For example one of the issues is Hoops Luminate's Metal support, which has
large performance issues compared to the opengl implementation, which
was removed for mac when they added Metal support.

This issue is more of an Apple problem than a Brics CAD problem. Changing the architecture and switching to Metal doesn't necessarily improve all performance.

I suspect there will be many cases where implementation isn't possible or becomes difficult. But I'll wait.

It's not longer Hoops 'Luminate', it's now Hoops Visualize.

Tech Soft 3D the company recently consolidated their product portfolio.

BricsCAD's graphics engine's naming history looks like this:

RedSDK (Redway3D was acquired by Tech Soft 3D in 2022)

    Hoops Luminate (renamed from RedSDK)

Hoops Visualize (renamed from Hoops Luminate)

  • I have a new M5 MacBook Air ordered which will obviously come with macOS 26.

If I replace my 6 year old M1 Max with a new M6 Max probably end 2026 / early 2027 it will come with macOS 27 which is rumoured to no longer include Rosetta 2 or be the last version to include it.

So I (and I am sure many others) are starting to get very anxious to, at least, get an update or road map to when we can expect an AS version of BricsCad.

The last update on progress, posted above, was in June 2025 so hopefully there has been some progress.

  • Did you ask Hexagon direct ? Vis support. Would be interesting to see what they say.

  • Pity, as I think Bricscad is an interesting alternative for CAD/BIM on macOS. And probably the only serious (proprietary) CAD/BIM on Linux (?)

  • MacOS 27 will still include Rosetta, which will be discontinued in macOS 28.

Here’s a screenshot from Apple’s website page on the topic:

  • I was just really hoping to get an update as to when the AS version is expected to be available or to at least get an update on the situation as AS has been out for 5 years and the last Intel Mac was launched in 2020 (2020 MacBook Air).

  • The dedicated development team is actively working on this project. But we can't promise when the AS version is expected, to avoid wrong expectations, as the task is large and complex.

Honestly I didn't expect that (after 5+ years)
Great to hear it is still on the roadmap.
